North Shore Elopement

The Minnesota wedding season is right around the corner. Everyone knows you never know what you're going to get in this atmospherically wild and crazy state. In fact, this coming weekend our clients are now planning for a winter wonderland wedding in mid April! 5-8 inches are on the horizon. With weddings you want to plan for everything and most importantly enjoy what you get and maximize all the creativity you can from what Mother Nature gives you. In this gorgeous and romantic elopement shoot we were given overcast skies on the black beaches of the North Shore. I prefer to capture the moment as it is and then help it take off! You may want a light and airy themed day or a moody romantic day in your photos and while our intentions can always be grand, in reality we want to live exactly in the moment that was given to us. This shoot has all the feels with great contrast that lends itself innocently to this young love.

I often think about what wedding I like best. Do I want it big or small? Do I want an intimate or an affair worthy of Gatsby? I'm also the worst to ask because I want them all. I'm reminded of a Two Door Cinema song here... anyone? :) You see, I want both! Most people and budgets call for one or the other. So, pick wisely. There are naturally pros and cons to each. I will tell you what I love about the small and intimate is that it can truly be anything you want it to be. Do you want caviar with your closest 6 on a private beach with no one else in sight? I've done this it was amazing! Do you want to run wildly along the water's edge like this is your own world made just for you? I liked this a lot too! The seclusion of this shoot reminded me of a conversation I had with a woman in Bali last week. She said she loved Bali 4 years ago because she could run on the beach naked and she felt like the whole island was hers. Now others have joined her on this beach so she's in search of her next location where it can be just her and the world. Ask yourself these two important questions and then plan from there. One, how wild, authentic and free do you want to feel on your wedding day? And lastly, who is this wedding really for? You'll plan everything right if you start there!

Rachel + Jon's Wedding Photography | Golden Valley Country Club

To start the day off, Rick was shooting Jon and the groomsmen getting ready at Rachel and Jon's venue, The Golden Valley Country Club.  Meanwhile, I was with Rachel, who was in Plymouth getting ready with her girls at the home her and Jon are creating together.

It wasn't hard to see that it was a home filled with love, beautiful photos blown up into large prints and canvas from their engagement session could be found sprinkled throughout their home, and the giddiness from her bridesmaids couldn't be more obvious!

After getting ready, everyone was brought together at the Golden Valley Country Club!  Golden Valley isn't known to be a particularly popular place to go for photoshoots, but Rick and I had scouted out some amazing hidden spots the day prior.  We found a hidden tennis court at an old apartment building that was overgrown with ivy and various other unknown to us foliage, Rachel was a little bit scared at first, but Jon held her hand and the look of fear on her face from the potential of snakes quickly turned into sultry looks of love.

Being a part of a wedding filled with as much love (and as many speeches that make you ugly cry) as Rachel and Jon's always makes my heart feel a little bit more full at the end of the day.  Enjoy their wedding photos and let us know which are your favorites in the comment's below!

Rachel + Stephen | Bearpath Golf and Country Club Wedding Videography

Minneapolis Wedding Videography at Bearpath Golf and Country Club

Back in 2013, Stephen was my intern and now I was just his wedding videographer last July!  Rachel and Stephen's wedding was an absolute fairytale (a rage type of fairytale at that).

Recently I have been asking clients if they want to be rockstars for their wedding video or if they'd like me to make them cry (happy tears of course). Having personally worked more than 580 weddings (that is an insane number isn't it?) I'm fairly confident that very few people have seen as much as I've seen or analyzed as much as I have analyzed when it comes to the wedding day and receptions. With all of these weddings under my belt, I have never gotten burnt out or tired of weddings (a very rare trait in the industry).

As people can testify, I'm attempting to bring all the fun, positivity and creativity into each day that I can possibly imagine. I attribute this to the fact that I, myself, never want to be bored. And a wedding is always filled with exciting, passionate, emotional and legendary moments. The key is that you have to be excited about finding each and every one of those moments and then be even more excited about extracting those moments and making them really shine!

When I met with Stephen and Rachel they said they wanted to be rockstars. And there were moments of tears, laughter, smiles and a kid who could out dance any other human ever! And through it all, I kept thinking how do so many other photographers, videographers, or DJ's ever get bored in this industry? I have only come to one conclusion - they just don't love LOVE anymore. I love LOVE and here is a video showing some legendary love!
