2017 | Being in the Flow

In all my years... and shockingly I’ve had quite a few of them by now, I’ve never had a year where monstrous changes didn’t occur. I used to go to a coffee shop every Valentine’s Day by myself and write ‘my year in review.’ I honestly couldn’t even recognize the man from the year before. So much changed. I read another book - changed my life. I met a different person - changed my life. I had a different job - changed my life. Year after year, I kept evolving and growing and each new version of myself that was created became so much more... aware. I think that’s the best word for it. Awareness can’t be taught. The subject of the idea itself means it has to be experienced.

If understood fully, awareness is akin to finding nirvana. It’s the balance of faith, hope, meaning and reason all wrapped up into the exact moment you’re living in right now. The goal is never to forget it and to live in that state of mind infinitely. Every year, I get a little bit better. Each new experience gave birth to a new awareness and an understanding I can’t imagine I ever got by without. So here I am now. 10 years since Flow started. People have come and gone but the Flow has always stayed the same. With our wedding this weekend on the sunny beaches of Clearwater, Florida - it makes our 1000th event! It’s fitting that I’ll be running photography, video and DJ for the celebration. As Liam Neeson said in Taken, “I do have a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a valuable asset for every event worth celebrating!” I added in a twist at the end.  I began this journey by pulling off things others thought was crazy or impossible. Doing it all became part of my new normal. Thankfully, 10 years later, I’ve added on a team of celebrities in their respective field. Somehow, everything came full circle and I’m truly thankful. The next 10 years will bring about even more change. With these changes will be more excitement, more adventure, and events that not only create and capture the imagination but begin a whole new story that we each can call our own.

This is “our year’s favorite moments” with many more to come! I included a best friend who I lost to cancer, another best friend’s wedding day, adventures overseas, oldies but goodies, first times and last times, and falling in love. And most importantly a child’s perfect moment of GLEE! After all, being in the Flow is to be truly happy, challenged and ecstatic about the moment you’re living in right... NOW!

Rachel + Jon's Wedding Photography | Golden Valley Country Club

To start the day off, Rick was shooting Jon and the groomsmen getting ready at Rachel and Jon's venue, The Golden Valley Country Club.  Meanwhile, I was with Rachel, who was in Plymouth getting ready with her girls at the home her and Jon are creating together.

It wasn't hard to see that it was a home filled with love, beautiful photos blown up into large prints and canvas from their engagement session could be found sprinkled throughout their home, and the giddiness from her bridesmaids couldn't be more obvious!

After getting ready, everyone was brought together at the Golden Valley Country Club!  Golden Valley isn't known to be a particularly popular place to go for photoshoots, but Rick and I had scouted out some amazing hidden spots the day prior.  We found a hidden tennis court at an old apartment building that was overgrown with ivy and various other unknown to us foliage, Rachel was a little bit scared at first, but Jon held her hand and the look of fear on her face from the potential of snakes quickly turned into sultry looks of love.

Being a part of a wedding filled with as much love (and as many speeches that make you ugly cry) as Rachel and Jon's always makes my heart feel a little bit more full at the end of the day.  Enjoy their wedding photos and let us know which are your favorites in the comment's below!

Rachel + Stephen | Bearpath Golf and Country Club Wedding Videography

Minneapolis Wedding Videography at Bearpath Golf and Country Club

Back in 2013, Stephen was my intern and now I was just his wedding videographer last July!  Rachel and Stephen's wedding was an absolute fairytale (a rage type of fairytale at that).

Recently I have been asking clients if they want to be rockstars for their wedding video or if they'd like me to make them cry (happy tears of course). Having personally worked more than 580 weddings (that is an insane number isn't it?) I'm fairly confident that very few people have seen as much as I've seen or analyzed as much as I have analyzed when it comes to the wedding day and receptions. With all of these weddings under my belt, I have never gotten burnt out or tired of weddings (a very rare trait in the industry).

As people can testify, I'm attempting to bring all the fun, positivity and creativity into each day that I can possibly imagine. I attribute this to the fact that I, myself, never want to be bored. And a wedding is always filled with exciting, passionate, emotional and legendary moments. The key is that you have to be excited about finding each and every one of those moments and then be even more excited about extracting those moments and making them really shine!

When I met with Stephen and Rachel they said they wanted to be rockstars. And there were moments of tears, laughter, smiles and a kid who could out dance any other human ever! And through it all, I kept thinking how do so many other photographers, videographers, or DJ's ever get bored in this industry? I have only come to one conclusion - they just don't love LOVE anymore. I love LOVE and here is a video showing some legendary love!
